Nervous people were annoying. They either can’t shut up about how nervous they are or they puffed out their chests pretending that they weren’t nervous. Either way, after a certain point they both sounded like they needed a big old punch to the face.
Needless to say, the Normandy crew was full…
Gabby leaned against her terminal, staring at the machine blankly as it finished running a full engine diagnostic. She was just contemplating going upstairs for coffee when a deep voice made her almost jump out of her skin. “Wrex! You scared the life out of me!” The krogan had never talked to her before, so she found it a bit odd he would come all the way down here just for a chat. “What do I do down here? Well usually I’m in charge of the propulsion systems, but today I have to look after the entire engine room.” Her eyes traced his scar from the face plate down to his neck. She quickly looked back up to his eyes, telling herself it was rude to stare. “So, what are you doing all the way down here?”
Wrex chuckled a bit under his breath when the engineer jumper. “You need to be a bit more aware of your surrounding. I’m not exactly stealthy.”
He listened politely as she explained what her job was, but he didn’t really care. Technicals required too much patience and precision. He preferred jobs that could be solved with explosions.
“Why am I down here?” He shrugged. “I’m bored. What with the upcoming fight everyone’s running around doing something and having panic attacks. You looked relatively un-busy and not irritating.” He paused. “What’s your name?”
“The name’s Gabriella, but you can just call me Gabby.” She crossed her arms over her chest, wondering what manner of entertainment Wrex hoped to find down in engineering. “Well, if you’re bored, I have a deck of cards. Care to play?”
“Alright. What do you play? Skyllian Five?” He asked as he watched the girl nimbly begin dealing out cards. Although he had many talents, Wrex was never all that dextrous, so it was a trait he somewhat envied.
“Where you from, Gabby? Earth?”

It depends on what kind of stories you’re after. I’m afraid you might find some of them…..distasteful.
Well, there was that time me and my good-for-nothing brother killed a thresher maw with nothing but our shotguns, one assault rifle and six grenades. That’s a pretty good one.

Needless to say, the Normandy crew was full of nervous people. Understandable, given that they were about to fight an infinitely old mechanic psuedo-god, but come on. The battle would come when it would come and nothing would come of spouting anxiety from every pore and orifice.
While he could have just locked himself away from the rest of the ship, but he didn’t really have anything to do. He had already caught up on the news from Tuchanka, and sure he could watch a vid or something but they’d be going into battle soon and he probably wouldn’t be able to watch the whole thing and that would just be annoying. Perhaps, Wrex thought, the engineering deck would be a little more tolerable. They weren’t the people going into the front lines of combat, and would probably be too busy calibrating firing algorithms, or whatever it is they did down there, to be too annoying. He took the elevator down, and made his way to the engine room. He picked out a dark-haird woman who looked halfway between being busy and not, and approached her.
“So. What do you do around here?”
